Big Boy Bed!!

Eli is now sleeping in a big boy bed!!

He REALLY loved his cot, and never tried climbing out, but while we were away, he hated being in Portacots, so Trev had to lay with Eli when he went to bed at 1pm & 7pm everyday- he said he felt like a naughty boy being sent to his room! We're planning on going down the Coast for Canberra Day, so I said it was time to move him.

Did we just take his cot down and transfer him staright across? Of course not, we're psychologists, so to ward off any anxiety, we thought we'd do a gradual transition.

So, we took the side off his cot, and moved it paralell to the single bed. We put the same colour sheets, pillow cases and blankey on both beds, and half his toys in the cot and the other half on the bed.

The first day, he jumped from the bed across to the cot, which had a lower mattress. Psychologists 0, Eli 1.
So we got the spare cot mattrress, and put in on the cot so they were level.

At 2 in the morning the first night, he woke up screaming because he somehow got his leg caught in the very small gap between mattresses.

So we put a rolled doona, and made up the cot & sheet with a sheet across, so there was no gap, and gave him 2 weeks to make a gradual transition. The only time he touched the bed was to drag all his toys into the cot! He slept once across the bed & cot, but it was purely by accident, and did not repeat it despite LOTS of positive reinforcement.
Psychologists 0, Eli 2.
So we took the cot down, and he's slept perfectly in the big boy bed ever since!!! Godma Judy had a right giggle when we told her! He looks asleep in the photos, but he's just blinking.
Next up, toilet training.....
